-mails they came upon david petraeus. let's stop it here and bring in suzanne -- suzanne kelly in washington, our intelligence correspondent. suzanne, a lot of ground to cover here. we have this video that has surfaced of paula broadwell, last month, speaking at the university of denver and she's speaking here as david petraeus' biographer about the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. let's take a listen. >> i don't know if a lot of you heard this, but the cia an annex had taken a couple prisoner and they think the attack on the consulate was an attempt to get the prisoners back. that's still being vetted. >> where did she hear that? did it come from david petraeus and do we know if her claim was true, the cia was holding captives inside a consular annex in benghazi? >> right, ted. this raises serious issues. she clearly said in the video the information she was sharing on libya and the cia holding prisoners there hadn't been vetted. so that means she is sharing something with -- that she heard with a public audience. that's concerning because they have to ask, what is your so
told about the investigation of david petraeus are getting ready to meet. that's this afternoon. a senior official is telling cnn details about general john allen's relationship with a socialite at the center of both investigations. this is a web of characters and connections that is impacting the team in charge of america's security. it is also delaying when the world will know who will be the next leader of nato. general john allen was to have a confirmation hearing this thursday on his way to becoming the supreme allied commander. that, of course, is now on hold while allen denied doing anything wrong, he is under investigation for potentially inappropriate e-mails he sent to this woman, jill kelley, the tampa socialite triggered the petraeus investigation. we'll get to exactly how in just a moment. the defense department's inspector general is going through e-mails allen and kelley sent to each other. >> the primary thing is that, you know, she wants her privacy protected. and i think that she's going to probably come out at some point and make a statement. >> privacy, of co
to the resignation of david petraeus. here's the latest on the players and the events. here's how it all started. it started when jill kelly, a friend of general petraeus, contacted the fbi about threatening emails she said she received from another woman. that woman was paula broadwell who wrote petraeus's biography. she said she used to jog with the general while he was leading the war in afghanistan. they got to know each other. the fbi checked petraeus's e-mail accounts and said they had not been compromised. petraeus was interviewed by the fbi, but it is unclear if broadwell has been questioned. i want to bring in joel kelly, her husband released this statement earlier today. this is the statement. it says, "we and our family have been friends with general petraeus and his family for over five years. we respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children." we are also now learning that paula broadwell revealed information regarding the investigation of the attack on the consulate in benghazi, li a libya. a video of her speaking in denver has now surface odd
, that jill kelley, we're talking about the same tampa housewife whom david petraeus' then mistress paula broadwell apparently saw as rival. a whole new chapter in a saga that since last friday has been one bombshell after another. and so far, all of them have something to do with kelley. she's a volunteer military liaison at the air force base, home of the u.s. central command in tampa, florida. kelley complained to the fbi last spring when paula broadwell was having an affair with petraeus allegedly harassed her with jealous e-mails. petraeus admitted the affair with broadwell but denies any elicit contact with kelley. so does general allen who was scheduled for a senate confirmation hearing this very week to become nato's supreme allied commander. today that's on hold, but he will continue in his position as the investigation continues. and all of that as the pentagon digs through 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other communications, many with kelley over a two-year period. >>> each revelation brings 100 new questions and my colleague chris lawrence joins me from the pentagon to
the fbi that there were classified information on her computer. but both she and david petraeus have said that information did not come from petraeus. paula broadwell has a lot of other sources out there. and remember, she did have some security clearance as a former -- and really is a reservist in a military intelligence officer. >> chris lawrence at the pentagon, many thanks to you. members of congress have expressed outrage over a lack of communication to the point of saying their lack of involvement in this could be criminal. watch. >> you do have a fiduciary responsibility to tell the chairman and the ranking member of both the house and senate of the intelligence committee. and if they were not informed, and looks like senator feinstein was not informed, then something is grossly wrong. those people have to know. >> a lot of questions about who knew what when. let's bring in cnn senior congressional correspondent dana bash on capitol hill for us. dana, great to see you. congress as you know back to work today. they'll be holding this closed door briefing today on that attack in beng
commander of nato. we're also hearing more from paula broadwell. mistress of david petraeus and petraeus, of course, was general john allen's predecessor in afghanistan. i know this is confusing. he retired from the military to take up the directorship of the cia, which catapulted this story to the top of the list. he quit last friday when his affair was exposed through anonymous e-mails that broadwell sent to remember that woman at the beginning of the show? jill kelley? she sent the e-mails to jill kelley and the most pressing questions is whether mrs. broadwell got her hands on some secret military information that she sure as heck was not entitled to see and that's why the fbi did this. late at night, fbi agents raiding mrs. broadwell's north korea home on monday. it's why a 16-month panel discussion that might never have seen the light of day at the aspen institute all of a sudden now becomes very interesting. some added cig significance, shall we saw, because mrs. broadwell talked about being in general petraeus' inner circle in afghanistan. >> and i was embedded with general petra
